What We Offer to You
  • We provide a secure, loving and safe "home away from home."
  • We serve breakfast, lunch and mid-afternoon snack each day. These meals meet the requirements of the Child Care Food Program. They are served family style. A menu is posted on our bulletin board.
  • A well trained, child loving staff will work to stimulate your child to develop his/her potential. 1-8 staff to child ratio.
  • Our morning program includes a structured preschool time. We follow a different theme each week. Our time is divided into group time and center activities time. We encourage all areas of development.
  • We provide a Bible time which includes stories and songs. We also pray at meals.
  • Children are given an opportunity to rest daily. A cot, blanket and pillow are provided. Children can bring a favorite stuffed toy and/or blanket from home if they wish.
  • All children play outside daily unless weather conditions prevent it.
  • Discipline is handled in a positive Christian manner on an individual basis to encourage self control, self direction, self esteem and cooperation.
  • We communicate regularly with parents by use of monthly newsletters, notes on our door and conference (usually in March). Daily contact between parents and staff is encouraged. Parents are always welcome here.
To enroll in our program, children must be at least two and a half years old and must be toilet trained. For additional information, please contact the Center at (616) 457-1780 or e-mail.
Daily Shepherd's Goals
  • To enrich the lives of children in a safe, secure and loving Christian environment. To provide quality care for children during the time their parents are unable to do so.
  • To enhance the positive self concept and develop the individual strengths of each child.
  • To develop social and cognitive skills.
  • To work in cooperation with the parents for the child's development.
  • To guide children in their spiritual growth.
  • To develop a sense of excitement for learning and a positive attitude toward school.
  • To develop learning skills such as listening, following directions, problem solving, and good work habits. To develop self confidence for trying new experiences and for meeting new people.
  • To develop fine and gross motor skills.
Daily Shepherd's Philosophy
We believe children learn best through play. Play is a child's work. It is active and involves both mind and body. Play develops a sense of independence as a child learns to make choices, a sense of confidence as a child focuses on a task and accomplishes it and a sense of excitement toward new experiences. While busy playing a child absorbs a base of knowledge about himself, other people, and the world.
In our program learning takes place in many ways:
  • There are activities initiated and guided by teachers
  • There are activities children initiate
  • Our teachers are ever-present, taking time to listen and talk with children, to help them understand and express their ideas and their feelings, to answer questions, to ask questions, to model appropriate behavior and to encourage them to explore, discover and develop.
Parents and teachers are regarded as partners who work together for the benefit of the child. We value your insights. Feel free to approach us with any concerns you have. Parents are always welcome here.

Our staff is selected on the basis of sensitivity to and understanding of young children. Their education and experiences differ. What they share is their ability to care for children safely and effectively. They are committed to accepting your child (whatever ability level, race, sex, culture, etc...) and encouraging your child to grow toward his/her potential.
